Our focus, expertise, and strengths
Employment Law
The Worm Law Firm approaches each employment issue with a unique blend of excellent legal analysis, sound business judgment, and humanity. We provide guidance and counsel on all phases of the employment relationship — from the initial hiring, to performance reviews, through termination. We assist clients with setting up employment processes, including employee handbooks, and provide answers for the many employment issues that arise on a daily basis, including the ADA, FMLA and wage and hour issues. We also provide engaging harassment training for our clients.

We are frequently called on to be the voice of reason in the often-stressful area of employee relations, particularly when it becomes necessary to discipline or terminate an employee. We have assisted many companies with reductions in force and are therefore able to safely guide companies through such events with a combination of respect for employees, minimum disruptions of the business, and a focus on moving the business forward.

We also assist individual executives and other professionals with their employment agreements and severance or release agreements. Because of our experience in negotiating such agreements for both employers and employees, we are aware of the current market trends in the areas of compensation, severance, options, and other employee benefits. This enables us to negotiate the best terms for our clients, in the most efficient manner possible.

Commercial Real Estate Leases
Worm Law Firm principal Kathy Worm has reviewed and negotiated commercial real estate leases for over 15 years. In that capacity, she has represented both landlords and tenants (retail, office, and lab space) and uses the perspective gained from this experience to negotiate on behalf of clients in a very cost-effective manner. We understand that leases represent a significant expense for any business and we help clients understand the economic impact of complex leases. We are well aware of the current market terms and conditions and use our expertise to assist clients in obtaining the best possible terms. We maintain good relationships with developers and brokers, which often result in simplified negotiations and faster turnaround time. Ms. Worm has previously acted as in-house counsel for a Class A real estate developer in the Raleigh-Durham area.

Contract Review and General Corporate
Kathy Worm has extensive experience reviewing a wide variety of contracts, including management agreements, shareholder agreements, commission plans, license agreements, equipment leases, and architect and construction agreements. Ms. Worm uses her training as a corporate and securities lawyer to focus on the important issues in each contract and helps clients negotiate and close the best possible deal.
